Elvis Mitchell
The New York Times

"Y Tu Mama Tambien" — the phrase translates from Spanish as "And your
mama, too" — is one of those Bildungsroman films that could begin or
end with the phrase, "And my life was never the same again." The
director, Alfonso Cuarón, works with a quicksilver fluidity, and the
movie is fast, funny, unafraid of sexuality and finally devastating.
The film, which takes place in Mexico, follows two hormonally consumed
teenage boys, Julio (Gael García Bernal) and Tenoch (Diego Luna),
whose infantile macho games seem more like baby steps when they meet
Luisa (Maribel Verdú), a sad-eyed young woman who is married to
Tenoch's older cousin. Tenoch and Julio come on to Luisa by promising
her a tour of the wondrous beach called Heaven's Mouth. By the end,
Julio and Tenoch are left with their eyes wide open. Those in the
audience will have seen something unforgettable, too.

[LYMAN] Elephant Seals!

Howdy Lyman,

The elephant seals are mating again, and one of the best times to see them is this Saturday!  Lyman will be going to the Ano Nuevo State Reserve this Saturday to see the elephant seals and pups on a 3-mile, 2.5 hrs guided tour.  Normally, the tour is $5/person, but if you come with Lyman, it's totally free!  The plan is to meet by the Tree at 12:15 pm, carpool over to the Ano Nuevo State Reserve, and take the 2:30 pm guided tour.  We'll grab dinner afterwards, depending on time and hunger and return around 6 or 7 pm.  We've only got spots for 12 people, so sign-up outside 3103 and drop a check made out to Lyman for $5 (the check just makes sure you're definitely coming and you'll get the checks back when we meet up at the Tree).  You'll get an e-mail with more information when your spot is confirmed.  Be forewarned though, the guided tours can be a bit strenuous and they run rain or shine so depending on the weather for the day, raingear could be required (currently Weather.com is predicting "few showers" (30%) while Accuweather.com is predicting rain in the evening).

Cheers,

The CAs

·         What:  A free guided tour to the world of elephant seals.

Free Salsa Lessons From I-Center

Nightclub Salsa

Born in this century in Puerto Rico and New York, salsa is just what
the name implies, a mix of African rhythms and European parter dancing
resulting in a constantly evolving dance with distinctive regional
spicing.

Come and learn the basics, or develop your existing skills. Our goal
is to get you dancing and having fun right away. Emphasis will be on
rhythm and musicality, and partnering with lead and follow techniques.
Everyone will learn to both lead and follow.

The first class will start with exercises on rhythm, walking, balance,
and connection, and will focus on basic turns and loops for leads and
follows. This quarter, the second class will work on intermediate
turns:
hooks, doubles, spins, and incorporating them into your dancing.

The classes will build skills throughout the series; so, while everyone
is welcome to drop in for the occasional class it could be confusing to
only come to the last class.

The classes will be held in the assembly room at the Bechtel
International Center (422 Lagunita Drive, Stanford University).

What is IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)? What does IMS promise to the
world tomorrow?
IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) has rapidly emerged as a critical
technology in the Operator?s services to offer the subscriber,
primarily because of its potential to enable both wireless and
wire-line carriers to create and deliver a full portfolio of compelling
data services effectively with low CapEx. To date, IMS has remained
primarily in the service provider domain, with little if any crossover
into the world of enterprise networks. But as IMS deployment begin to
surface in more Carrier networks, it is almost certain to expand into
the enterprise sector, and VOIP is likely to be among its most
prominent entry points.

In this talk, we will focus on the following:

An introduction of IMS technology and overview of its key objectives.
An analysis of the increasingly important role of IMS in fixed/mobile
convergence and NGN.
Applications that will be deployed using IMS (services, qualities,
accounting and management, VOIP, UMA, GSM/CDMA etc.)
An overview of IMS standards activities, including the roles played by
the IETF, 3GPP, 3GPP2, ETSI, ITU, OMA, CableLabs and various other
bodies working on aspects of IMS, as well as the relationships among
them and the standards they?ve created.
Challenges and future of IMS

MICROSOFT Tech Talk

Microsoft Max:

"Getting users to fall in love with your software"

Presented by Hillel Cooperman

Product Unit Manager, Microsoft Max

Wednesday, March 1st @ 5:30 PM

Location: Packard 101

The art of user experience design is at a crossroads. At the beginning
of the graphical user interface revolution, consistency and concept
reuse represented vast leaps forwards for usability and intuitiveness
bringing computing power to new legions of customers. The user
interface practices and advances of the web, the connectedness of our
world, and the fidelity and flexibility of computing devices has
brought us to the point where consistency and concept reuse are no
longer enough. There are new elements to take into account when making
software that users won't just find useful but will love. And making
software that users fall in love with is a worthy endeavor.

Subway Sandwiches will be served!

Bring Your Resume for a chance to

win a

Canon Elph Digital Camera Package!

Howdy Lyman!

Were you longing for the East coast, afraid our cold spell wouldn't
last very long, just thinking about how "cool" it would be to go ice
skating at Winter Lodge, Palo Alto's premiere outdoor ice skating
rink, for half price with the Lyman Crew? Because if you were (and
even if you weren't), have I got a deal for you! This Friday, Lyman
is going ice skating at Winter Lodge, and it's only half price! The
plan is to meet at the Tree at 7:41 pm and car pool over to Winter
Lodge to skate for about two hours. If you're late, don't worry, just
head on over to Winter Lodge and tell them you're with Lyman.

Cheers,

The CAs

What: Half price skating at Winter Lodge (http://www.winterlodge.com/).

When: Festivities start at 7:41 pm by the Tree. Skating is from 8 pm
to 10 pm.

How: Bring $5 for skating (if you're a Lyman resident ($10 if you're
not)), socks, jacket, gloves, a crazy hat, a Polaroid camera to
capture the memories…

Where: Winter Lodge is located at 3009 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA 94306.

Who: Awesome Lymanites and their friends.
